Blue Ocean Institute’s science office is located in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (SoMAS) at Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, NY.
Dr. Carl Safina, Blue Ocean's founding president, is an adjunct professer in SoMAS and also serves as faculty in SBU's new Center for Communicating Science (CCS). In both CCS and SoMAS we have established partnerships to conduct research, teach courses, work with students, and plan new collaborations as the school seeks to strengthen public understanding of emerging climate and ocean issues.
At present we are collaborating with Dr. Nicholas Fisher in SoMAS to communicate the dangers of mercury in fish to a broad range of audiences. For more information about this research, click here.
